MAP-21 Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century: this is the comprehensive federal transportation reauthorization that establishes federal transportation funding and programs and replaces SAFETEA-LU. MAP-21 restructures and consolidated much of the existing core of federal highway programs into six main areas.
NEPA National Environmental Protection Act: Federal legislation which created an environmental review process, but pertains only to projects having federal involvement through financing, permitting, or Federal land ownership.

Regional Transportation Planning Agency: State designated agency responsible for preparation of the RTP and RTIP.
SAFETEA-LU
Safe, Effective, Flexible, Efficient, Transportation, Equity Act: A Legacy for Users: this is an abbreviation for the federal transportation reauthorization that established funding and programs until MAP-21 was adopted and will be enacted in 2012. SAFETEA-LU followed the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21).
SB 1 The Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, Senate Bill (SB) 1, provides the first significant, stable, and on-going increase in state transportation funding in more than two decades. SB 45 Legislation passed in 1997 that increased the authority of RTPAs and established the current STIP process.
